Meeting Updates...

  • The Middle Paxton Township Supervisors meeting was held on Monday, August 3, and a very large delegation of citizens gave their views on the warehouse proposal during the public session when anyone can speak. The views expressed opposition against the warehouse. The room was limited to 25 people at a time and people the sizable crowd outside did not have access to listen to what was being said inside.
  • The Middle Paxton Planning Commission meeting was held on Monday, August 10 at 7. Dozens of speakers spoke against the commercial warehouse project and business proposals. The open tent meeting with microphones allowed people to attend at the same time and speak so that all could hear. Thank you to all who attended and expressed their concerns!

UPDATE ON COMING MEETINGS THAT ALL SHOULD ATTEND

  • Middle Paxton Planning Commission Monday, September 14 at 7 HAS BEEN CANCELED.  Please read below for additional information!

We still need to work together as a community...

Thank you all for the support to date. As noted above, the Serranos have not submitted requests for review with the planning commission so the meeting has been canceled. They have since removed their current application for a text amendment. Additionally, Midwest Food Bank opened their temporary Pennsylvania branch at a temporary location in Middletown. It doesn't mean, however, that the Serranos won't continue their pursuit.  This is only a temporary lease until they can build at their permanent location.  We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you informed with regard to any future developments. Thank you again for all your continued support and make sure to check back for any future updates.

The Problem

A family from New York has purchased the property at 2551 Fishing Creek Valley to build 60,000 square foot warehouse on the site. They want to use it as a food, which is a food distribution warehouse to feed the hungry. While we praise their noble and humanitarian intentions, a commercial building should not be constructed and operating in Fishing Creek Valley.  Along with the food bank, there are plans for a three fold center including a welding academy, shooting range, storage container converting into tiny homes, recreational gym, and more!  This is far fetched from the feel good family farm that is being presented to the community.

Before coming to the actual residents of Fishing Creek Valley, they retained one of the most powerful law firms in the state to bulldoze the way for this warehouse and showed up at the Planning Commission armed with that law firm. There are plenty of industrial/commercial zoned areas as well as empty commercial buildings where such a warehouse would be more appropriate outside of our Valley.

This website is a place for people to come together to obtain information we need to fight for the preservation of this Valley.

What You Can Do

You can pick up a “STOP THE WAREHOUSE” sign for your front yard or a car sticker at Cindy and Bill's Valley Store. They will have a donation jar there to help defray the cost of the signs that Stoner Graphix has quickly put together. They will also have information sheets there. You can file an official complaint for the shooting noise at: https://www.middlepaxtontwp.org/index.php/resources/complaints/

The residents should also call the Middle Paxton Township office at 717-921-8128 and let their elected supervisors know what is on your minds and go to the township meetings.  Currently, the Serranos have not presented new information for review at a township meeting.  See above for additional information.

Our organization has been formed for non-profit status with the Pennsylvania Department of State and filed for tax exempt status with the Internal Revenue Service.  All donations made are tax deductible. In the meantime, initial donations to get things off the ground should be sent to Preserve Fishing Creek Valley, Inc. at 3020 Fishing Creek Valley Road, Harrisburg, PA 17112. Signs, mailings, legal support, organizing, etc. all take funding even in this time when people are stretched to their limits.  Funds are being used to enlist the services of a reputable law firm that specializes in protecting the residents of Fishing Creek Valley and their properties.

Why are we taking this action?

image188

The position of the initial organizers of this effort to oppose the warehouse is that, while we appreciate the humanitarian goals that the warehouse developer is stating, we are firmly opposed to the warehouse and commercialization of the Ag- Rural Residential zoning in the Fishing Creek Valley. To that end, we are not just against the commercial development at this property, but in the A-RR zoned areas of Fishing Creek Valley as a whole.  Our efforts are aimed at the preservation of the natural landscapes and environmental characteristics that make our Valley such a well sought out place to live for generations to come.  Commercial development would come as a detriment to this area.  There are currently plenty of industrial land and existing warehouse opportunities that are appropriate for such a project.
